EMI AND IKLAX MEDIA CELEBRATE THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF DAVID BOWIE’S “SPACE ODDITY” WITH MULTI-TRACK APP FOR IPHONE AND IPOD TOUCH
Originally Released In 1969 To Coincide With The First Manned Mission To Land On The Moon, “Space Oddity” Now Available For Fans To Remix
“Giving fans creative control over their favorite music has always been our focus,” said iKlax Founder and CEO, Owen Lagadec. “We’re proud to join our partners at EMI in distributing one of David Bowie’s iconic songs through the iKlax multitrack application.”
Reviewing the various individual audio tracks, fans are enabled to remix the vocals, acoustic 12-string guitar, drums and bass, mellotron, organ and guitars, guitar solo, strings and other orchestration on both the iPod Touch, iPhone and desktop applications. In addition, users may select to deactivate the drum line or heighten the guitar for a personal touch on a pop music classic.
“The iKlax iPhone application will offer fans a unique opportunity to engage with the groundbreaking recording of Space Oddity like never before,” said EMI Music Digital Director, Catalogue, Geoff Smith. “In providing creative control over content, fans not only feel closer to the music of David Bowie, but can actively participate in the creation of their own mixes”.
Originally released on July 11, 1969 to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landings, “Space Oddity” was a cultural landmark for David Bowie as an artist. The song was featured by the BBC on its television coverage of the lunar landing and later won an Ivor Novello award. Major Tom, the song’s mysterious character, has become a recurrent theme throughout Bowie’s work and career, being revisited in the song “Ashes To Ashes.”
